Dr. (Prof.) Majeed Alam is one of the most respected surgeons and healthcare leaders in Eastern India, with more than 40 years of experience in General and Laparoscopic Surgery. Throughout his distinguished career, he has combined clinical excellence, ethical medical practice, and visionary leadership to transform healthcare delivery in Jharkhand. As the Founder and Chairman of Alam Hospital & Research Centre, Ranchi, he has played a pivotal role in developing one of the region’s leading multi-specialty healthcare institutions while remaining committed to delivering advanced, affordable, and patient-centered medical care.
He holds MBBS and MS (General Surgery) qualifications and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons of London (FICS), reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of surgical excellence. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to medicine, healthcare, and society, he has been honored with the prestigious Jharkhand Ratna Award.
As the Head of the Department of General & Laparoscopic Surgery, Dr. Majeed Alam has successfully performed thousands of surgical procedures ranging from routine operations to highly complex gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, trauma, colorectal, breast, vascular, and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries. His areas of expertise include laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, diagnostic laparoscopy, complex Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgery, Whipple’s procedure, pancreatic surgery, oesophageal and gastric surgery, intestinal and colorectal surgery, emergency trauma surgery, breast surgery, proctology, diabetic foot management, chronic wound care, and minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins.

Driven by his vision of building an Accessible healthcare institution, Dr. Majeed Alam has founded Alam Hospital & Research Centre nearly four decades ago. What began as a modest healthcare initiative has grown under his leadership into a 150+ bed multi-specialty tertiary care hospital, equipped with modern infrastructure, advanced technology, comprehensive critical care services, and a team of highly qualified doctors, surgeons, and clinicians, healthcare professionals dedicated to delivering excellence in patient care.
Recognizing that quality healthcare depends on highly skilled nursing professionals, Dr. Majeed Alam established the IDEAL School of Nursing with the mission to create/build competent, compassionate, and professionally trained nurses. The institution offers General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) and B.Sc. Nursing programs, combining strong academic foundations with extensive clinical training to prepare students for successful careers in healthcare.
To further strengthen the healthcare workforce, he also founded the IDEAL Academy of Paramedical Science, dedicated to developing highly skilled paramedical professionals across multiple healthcare disciplines. Dr. Tarannum Afroz Alam is a distinguished Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at Alam Hospital & Research Centre, Ranchi, with extensive clinical expertise in advanced maxillofacial surgery and dental implantology. Her practice focuses on the diagnosis and surgical management of complex conditions affecting the mouth, jaws, face, and associated craniofacial structures.
She holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and a Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore. Her academic training and extensive clinical experience have enabled her to develop specialized expertise in managing a broad spectrum of oral and maxillofacial conditions through contemporary surgical techniques and comprehensive treatment planning.
